Full Tour Description
The tour will begin from our tour center located just a short walk from CharlesBridge. From there, we will meander through the cobblestone streets of Prague in route to PragueCastle by crossing over one of the most historic bridges the world has ever known. Imagine yourself walking amongst kings and queens as they travelled across CharlesBridge in route to PragueCastle. Upon crossing this magnificent piece of history, we will travel through the quiet quaint streets of Lesser Town known for its baroque churches and palaces giving it a unique picturesque charm you will soon not forget. We will begin our journey through lesser town by stopping to admire the various architecture styles of the church and monastery, Our Lady under the Chain which was founded by knight templars. Then we make our wave through KampaPark and the Owl Mill where you can make fun of Černý’s baby replicas. These babies are well known to many Praguers as they occasionally climb the tall TV tower easily noticeable no matter your vantage point. For you Hollywood buffs, we will take you to the place (Kampa Square) where several scenes in Mission Impossible were filmed en route to another Černý’ amusing creation (an entertaining surprise for all to see) just outside the Frankz Kafka Museum. From the cobblestone streets of Prague to a slightly different change of pace and terrain, we take you through two natural parks called VojanGardens and WallensteinGardens. Vojan Guardens, known as a local reading hangout, it consists of many park benches that line the pathways throughout the park. Very similar to the scene in Forrest Gump where Tom Hank’s tell his story (box of chocolates) while sitting on a park bench. Hopefully you’ll get lucky and see some of the most beautiful peacocks (who love to show their colours) residing there. From there, we’ll take a peek at WallensteinGardens, designed and built by one of Europe’s greatest war masterminds and is located at the WallensteinPalace (meeting place for the Czech Senate). Now it’s off to see the Castle. This strenuous, nevertheless breathtaking walk will not only challenge you physically, but will give you a true majestic look and feel just how magnificent Prague is. We enter the palace complex through the gate of the BlackTower (formally “Golden” Tower) which was used as a former prison and lookout tower. From there, we travel to Golden Lane (entry included), named after goldsmith’s who resided there. Golden Lane is a strip of little tiny houses painted in various colours built literally right in the arches of the PragueCastle walls. It’s a site you won’t believe until you see it. House #22 was occupied by Franz Kafka himself. After a short walk, we make our way to the oldest structure at PragueCastle, the OldRoyalPalace used in many different capacities due to its large number of historic halls including the famous Vladislav Hall. This was once the largest hall in all of Central Europe which housed many events including, knight competitions and coronations. It is now currently used for presidential elections. Another famous room Bohemian Chancellery) located in the Louis Tract of the Old Royal Palace is known for the start of the 30-year war due to the defenestration of two imperial governors in 1618. The last stop on our tour (St. Vitus Cathedral) took almost 600 years to complete and is an exceptional example of Gothic architecture. It is the largest church in the CzechRepublic and contains the tombs of Bohemian Kings and Holy Roman Emperors., and also houses the Czech Crown Jewels. There is so much history contained within the confinements of the St. Vitus Cathedral you truly have to see it to believe.
